Dear Friends in Christ,

In a world where nothing is “normal”, in a world where fear and anxiety are constant companions, we are bold enough to proclaim, with assurance and joy:

“God is love!,

God is in control! God will see us through these difficult times!”

And all God’s people say: “Amen!”

I hope you continue to keep yourself safe and healthy. Spend this free time in prayer and meditation.

We have been in contact with our District Superintendent and our Bishop. Because of the continual increase of the number of cases of the Covid-19 virus, the following decisions have been made concerning our worship services and other activities:

There will be no worship services or other group activities held at Mt Pisgah Trinity United Methodist Church until further notice.

This means no services on Palm Sunday, April 5; no services on Maundy Thursday, April 9 or Good Friday, April 10; and no services on Easter, April 12.

This is hard to accept , for this Holy time is when the Christian family gathers together to celebrate the “Core” of our faith: the death and resurrection of our Savior and Lord, the only Son of God, Jesus, our Christ.

It is hard for me to imagine Easter without a communal celebration with my fellow believers. But, with God’s grace, love and wisdom we, together, will adapt ourselves to new ways of being faithful in our worship of the Risen Christ.

Below are the scriptures for this Sunday, Palm Sunday, April 5, along with some questions for meditation and discussion. May God continue to be the center of your life. Stay safe, and God’s blessings and love to upon you!

Pastor Keith

#58 Prayer for the Mind of Christ

“Let us remember Jesus: Who though he was rich, yet for our sakes became poor and dwelt among us. Who was content to be subject to his parents, the child of a poor couple’s home. Who lived for thirty years the common life, earning his living with his own hands and declining no humble tasks. Whom the people heard gladly, for he understood their ways. May this mind be in us which was in Christ Jesus. Amen.

    #57 Holy

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, Holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” Romans 12:1

#54 Prayer for the Global Church

Dear God, thank you that we get to be a part of Your global Church at this moment. Thank you for the opportunity to spread your love and hope to a world living in darkness and despair. Your Word says that if your people humble themselves, turn away from wickedness, and call on your name, that you will answer them and heal their land. So we, your people, are asking your forgiveness for the times we’ve chosen not to love the people you put in front of us. Allow this time to strengthen your Church and to remind us of how much you love this hurting world. Please heal our land and use us to meet the needs of others. Grow our faith as you grow your global Church. Come, Lord Jesus, and do what only you can do. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Strong covenant God, save us from being self-centered in our prayers, and teach us to remember to pray for others, May we be so bound up in love with those for whom we pray that we may feel their needs as acutely as our own, and intercede for them with sensitiveness, with understanding and imagination. This we ask in Christ’s name. Amen. (John Calvin, Switzerland)

    #41 Abide

“Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me.. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you; ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” John 15:4-7

    #38 Prayer Remembering Jesus

Let us remember Jesus: who was mighty in deed, healing the sick and the disordered, using for others the powers he would not invoke for himself. Who refused to force people’s allegiance. Who was Master and Lord to his disciples, yet was among them as their companion and as one who served. Whose desire was to do the will of God who sent him.

Let us remember Jesus: Who loved people, yet retired from them to pray, rose a great while before day, watched through the night, stayed in the wilderness, went up into a mountain, sought a garden. Who, when he would help a tempted disciple, prayed for him. Who prayed for the forgiveness of those who rejected him, and for the perfecting of those who received him. Who observed the traditions, but defied convention that did not serve the purposes of God. Who hated the sins of pride and selfishness, of cruelty and impurity.

Let us remember Jesus: Who believed in people and never despaired of them. Who through all disappointment never lost heart. Who disregarded his own comfort and convenience, and thought first of others’ needs, and, though he suffered long, was always kind. Who when he was reviled, uttered no harsh word in return.

We remember you, Jesus our Lord and Savior. Amen

May they search your will and see it clearly.

If we have turned from your way,

Reverse our ways and help us to repent.

    Give us your light and your truth, let them guide us;

Through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of his world, and our Savior. Amen.

  • Message from Pastor Keith

In these difficult times, times of uncertainty and fear, it is important for us to look to God for guidance and assurance and hope. It is in the scriptures that we will find the answers we look for. So, for each day, I offer the following words from God’s Word to help us.

Day 20-21 from Pastor Keith ✝️

    #20 Protection, Refuge (A)

“You who live in the shelter of the most high, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.’ For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence; he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, or the arrow that flies by day, or the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or the destruction that wastes at noonday.” Psalm 91:1-6

    #21 Protection, Refuge (B)

“Foe will command his angels concerning you, to guide you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone. … Those who love me, I will deliver, I will protect those who know my name. When they call to me, I will answer them; I’ll be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them. With long life I will satisfy them, and show them my salvation.” Psalm 91:9-10, 14-16

    #19 Illness: Life and Death

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plan, and a time to harvest; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; … a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-4,8“We do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.” Romans 14:7-10
